The Assam hooch tragedy that had jolted Golaghat and Jorhat districts, due to which more than 150 people had to lose their lives has also left hundred others falling sick. It may be noted that the incident has led to nine persons becoming critically visually impaired.
According to reports, the nine persons are now undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and four among them have almost lost their eyesight.
Jorhat Medical College and Hospital authorities have informed that the presence of methanol in the spurious liquor has led to the deaths as well as has left nine persons severely affected.
They have also informed that after treatment five patients have responded positively by slightly recovering their visual capability, however, they would remain visually impaired as their eyesight was very weak since the beginning.The other four almost lost vision as they could no longer see light.
