A Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) leader was arrested from Behali in Biswanath district on Monday for allegedly posting a derogatory comment against the state's health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Biswanath Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh saidthe accused identified as one Anil Baniya has posted an offensive statement onhis Facebook wall. He was arrested from his residence at Behali's Rongsali areaon Monday morning.
Police sources said, "After the health minister informed that he had undergone surgery, Baniya had posted that he wished for the death of the minister."
Sarma on Sunday was diagnosed with a kidney stone.
Medical practitioners at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) detected a kidney stone after Sarma had complained of extreme pain in the stomach.
Sarma, who has been highly active in managing theCOVID-19 situation in the state, on Sunday tweeted, "After an episode ofextreme pain in the stomach, doctors in GMCH have detected a kidney stonemeasuring 3.76 mm through Ultrasonography. Taking saline and injections toovercome the pain. Will take rest for the day."
