The state ofAssam is burning as the Centre is gearing up to introduce Citizenship AmendmentBill (CAB) in the winter session of the Parliament.
Political, non-political organizations, civic bodies, and concerned citizens have come out in the streets to protest against CAB.
AssamFinance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that CAB will be implemented withintwo days at the winter session of the Parliament. He said that CAB will notaffect the indigenous people of the state.
Meanwhile,statewide protest has been launched by AASU, AJYCP and other organizationsagainst CAB.
Speaking to Pratidin Time, AASU General Secretary, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that CAB will not be accepted at any circumstances. "We will not allow the Centre and the state government to implement CAB which will destroy the state. BJP can't show their power anywhere and anytime and can't take advantage of the numbers," said Gogoi.
He further stated that the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is silent on the issue as he represents Delhi, not Assam. He asked Sonowal as why can't he raise voice against CAB if other chief ministers of the North-Eastern states can.
On the otherhand, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that CAB will not be allowed in Assam. "Anact which will leave the people of Assam in dilemma will not be accepted. Itwill not only be a threat to Assam but whole of the Northeast," said Gogoi.
Moreover, AJYCP has also launched statewide protest against the contentious bill and their stand is also the same saying that the bill will bring danger to the state and NE and therefore, they will not allow CAB to be implemented.
