The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Saturday said that the hooch tragedy is the biggest tragedy that the State has ever witnessed. He also alleged that syndicate-raaj in the State has led to this tragedy in upper Assam.
"The Britishers had killed people by providing opium, now the BJP government is trying to kill people by providing poisonous hooch," said Akhil Gogoi.
The KMSS leader said that the authorities concerned must be held accountable for the whole incident and strict action must be taken against the guilty excise officers. He also alleged that excise department of the State was involved in the incident.
He said that there was a 'supari-syndicate' in the area and the DC of Golaghat has declared an investigation to the case last year. "But the police yet to take any step regarding the issue," said Gogoi.
Notably, the hooch tragedy of upper Assam is spiraling out of control as it claimed so far 125 lives and threatening to touch 150 as more and more affected people lost their lives forcing the government to rush doctor from Nagaon, Tezpur and Dibrugarh to meet with the crisis.
