In an unusual incident, the district administration of East Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh has observed that hundreds of both "dead and live" fish were floating in the Kameng River that flows along Seppa, a town 200 km away from Tezpur in Assam.

The East Kameng district administration has noted that the inexplicable incident has caused locals to rush to the river to catch the fish as they washed up on the shore.

However, an official notification issued by the administration on Friday stated that the "fishes may not be safe for human consumption", and "venturing into the river at this situation may cause risk to human life and situation may further create chaos amongst the public".

Therefore, the administration has asked the public should not "venture into the river for catching the fishes floating down which reason is yet to be ascertained".

The order also instructed fish sellers "not to sell fishes in the market till further order and consume until it is safe for consumption".

Cautioning the public, the administration stated that in case of violation of the order, it would not be responsible for any untoward incidents related to the situation.
