The Centre approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday between India and Myanmar on the bilateral cooperation for the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons, Rescue, Recovery, Repatriation, and Re-integration of victims of trafficking.

The MoU aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries and to increase bilateral cooperation on the issues of prevention, rescue, recovery, and repatriation related to human trafficking.

The agreement also aims at strengthening cooperation to preventall forms of human trafficking and to protect and assist the victims oftrafficking, besides ensuring speedy investigation and prosecution oftraffickers and organized crime syndicates in either country.

The MoU will also work setting up Working Groups and Task Forceto make efforts to prevent human trafficking.

According to reports, the MoU will also help in developing andsharing the database on traffickers and victims of trafficking in a safe andconfidential manner and exchange information through designated focal points ofIndia and Myanmar.
