A charge sheet has been filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday against six people for allegedly leaking confidential information. The six people include two serving and two retired Navy officers, who have been accused of passing on information regarding India's 'Kilo Class Submarines' to unauthorized persons, according to reports.
The six people have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code said reports. CBI said that the accused had been leaking confidential commercial information on the Medium Refit Life Certification (MRLC) programme of India's Kilo Class submarines to unauthorized persons for illegal gratification.
After the arrest of retired Navy officers Randeep Singh and SJ Singh on September 3, the case emerged. Subsequent searches at the property of retired Commodore Randeep Singh led to around ₹2 crore cash recovery, according to reports.
Two people, Commander Ajit Kumar Pandey posted at the Western Naval Command headquarters and another commander posted under him, were arrested based on investigation. According to CBI, both the commanders were passing on information to retired Navy officers, working for foreign companies.
A CBI source anonymously told NDTV that further investigation was going on and the charge sheet was filed today to prevent the arrested accused from getting default bail.
Commander SJ Singh, who retired earlier this year, has been reportedly working for a Korean company interested in Indian Navy projects. At least a dozen people including a Rear Admiral have been questioned in the case.
The CBI has not made the FIR public, in light of the sensitivity of the case. The FIR was filed on September 2 and the investigations are being handled at the highest level in the CBI.
