Democracy Murdered in Maharashtra: Rahul Gandhi

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi attacked theruling government over the political situation in Maharashtra saying "democracyhas been murdered."

Gandhi, who was supposed to ask a question during theQuestion Hour, refused to do so amid protests by the opposition. He said thatthere is no point in asking the question as democracy has been murdered inMaharashtra.

Opposition lawmakers protested in Lok Sabha when theHouse began proceedings on Monday morning. They raised slogans of 'stop murderof democracy' during the question hour. Speaker Om Birla then adjourned theproceedings till 12 pm.

Moreover, the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League andTrinamool Congress on Monday gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabhaover "sabotage of democracy in Maharashtra." CPM has also given an adjournmentmotion notice in Lok Sabha over the situation in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the opposition wanted suspension ofbusiness in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the revocation of President's rule in Maharashtra.The chair didn't agree and the MPs began shouting slogans. The House has beenadjourned till 2 pm.

Protests also erupted by the opposition outside theParliament. Congress President Sonia Gandhi led the party's protest on the promisesof Parliament against the BJP's move to form a government in Maharashtra.

Congress leaders like Anand Sharma and Adhir Ranjan Choudhury raised slogans and held placards criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
