Gujarat Bridge Collapse: CM Orders Probe, Announces Financial Aid

Following the tragic incident, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel ordered an official inquiry and announced financial compensation for the victims.

At least nine people have been killed after the four-decade-old bridge over the Mahisagar river connecting Vadodara and Anand incident in Gujarat collapsed on Wednesday morning. On the other hand, nine others were reportedly rescued after multiple vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar River following the collapse.

Following the tragic incident, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel ordered an official inquiry and announced financial compensation for the victims.

“The government will provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the heir of the deceased. Financial assistance of Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured, and their treatment will be provided by the state government,” said the Chief Minister.

CM Patel also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally spoken to him to take stock of the situation. Rescue operations are being carried out with the help of teams from the local municipality, Vadodara Municipal Corporation, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Prime Minister Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and announced additional ex-gratia relief. In a post on social media platform X, he said, “The loss of lives due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district, Gujarat, is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

He added, “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000."
