Heavy rains once again lash Mumbai and its suburbs hitting normal life as local trains slowed down during morning rush hour and a road accident was reported in waterlogged Andheri early on Wednesday.

Suburban train services on all four lines of CentralRailway were running at least 10-15 minutes late and the main line servicesslowed down due to water-logging between Kurla and Sion stations as the trainswere taking longer to cross the submerged tracks. But it was reported that thewestern railway services are running normally.

Water-logging was reported from some areas in thesuburbs especially across Andheri and Sion as showers continued beyond 7 am. Peoplewere seen walking through knee-deep water on roads as commuters waited to geton to the crowded trains on several stations where tracks were flooded afterthe rains.

Mumbai was recorded with widespread heavy rainsbetween Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. South Mumbai recorded 171.9mm ofrain while the suburbs received 58.6 mm from 11.30pm on Tuesday to 5.30 am onWednesday.

The weather bureau issued a Nowcast warning at 12.30am on Wednesday about intense rain over the next four hours in Mumbai and theIndia Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast isolated heavy rains during thenight.

However, IMD's revised forecast on Wednesday morningsaid that there will be intermittent rain with heavy showers in city andsuburbs in the next 24 hours.
