India, B’desh jointly inaugurate three projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated multiple projects in Bangladesh, through video conferencing.

The three projects inaugurated by India and Bangladesh are 500 MW additional power supply from India to Bangladesh through the existing Bheramara (Bangladesh) – Baharampur (India) interconnection, Akhaura – Agartala rail link and rehabilitation of the Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railways and rehabilitation of Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railways

External Affairs Minister of India and Bangladesh, Sushma Swaraj and Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali also joined the video conference from New Delhi and Dhaka respectively.

Prime Minister Modi said, "With the completion of the power project, 1.16 Gigawatts of power is now being supplied from India to Bangladesh. He said this journey from Megawatts to Gigawatts is symbolic of a golden era in the relations  between India and Bangladesh".

''Today we have increased our power connectivity, and started two projects to increase our railway connectivity,'' he added.

Modi  praised his counterparts development goals of transforming Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021, and a developed country by 2041.

Modi also said that the joint efforts of the two countries world be beneficial and take take development and prosperity to new heights.
