FormerUnion Minister P Chidambaram who was sent to Tihar Jail on Thursday started hisday today with a light breakfast. A Delhi court on Thursday sent Chidambaram totwo-week judicial custody in the INX Media corruption case.
Chidambaramwas brought to the jail on Thursday evening. He got no special facilities,except a separate cell and a western toilet as specified by the court, as saidby the prison officials.
Theformer minister will have the access to the prison's library like other inmatesand will allow to watch television for a specified period of time.
Thesenior Congress leader began his morning today with a light breakfast. On Thursdaynight, he had rotis (Indian bread), dal (lentl), vegetables and rice as per theprison's menu.
Afterthe mandatory medical check-up, Chidambaram was lodged in jail number 7 whichusually houses those accused in Enforcement Directorate cases. Incidentally,his son Karti Chidambaram was also lodged in the same cell for 12 days in thesame case last year.
Thecell was prepared in advance with Tihar Jail authorities anticipating that thesenior Congress leader may be sent to Tihar Jail if his anticipatory bail getsrejected by the court in the INX Media corruption case.
Thecourt allowed him to carry his spectacles and prescribed medicines to the jailand ordered that he be kept in a separate cell in the Jail as he is a protecteeunder Z-category security cover.
