Along with celebrations in the Northeast, festivities has also begun in the South. With Uruka, Bhogali Bihu beginning today in Assam, four-day celebrations of Makar Sankranti begin in Andhra Pradesh.

The first day is marked as Bhogi Panduga, where people burn all old articles. The second day, known as the Pedda Panduga is the main Sankranti, when people dress in new clothes to offer prayers to the almighty..

Kanuma, a day when farmers pray and exhibit their cattle with honour is celebrated on the third day. The last day of festivity is the Mukkanuma, mostly popular among the non-vegetarians.

Farmers celebrate this festival with utmost energy and enthusiasm in Telugu speaking areas of the country.
