Monsoon session of the Parliament begins

The Monsoon Session of the Parliament has begun on Wednesday as scheduled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government is ready for discussion on all issues and that he expects all political parties to cooperate for the smooth functioning of the session.

The Centre and the Opposition can expect to look forward to debates over a slew long pending list of relevant issues, which include 48 items including 46 Bills and two financial matters.

The Bills which would be introduced for considering and passing are The Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2018; The Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2018; The National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018 among others.

The Bills which were previously introduced but are yet to be considered and passed in the Lok Sabha are The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016; The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016; The National Sports University Bill, 2017 and The Rights of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Second Amendment) Bill, 2017 and many others.

The Bills which are pending in the Rajya Sabha are The Whistle Blowers Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2015; The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment) Bill, 2017; The National Commission for Backward Classes (Repeal) Bill, 2017 and The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 amongst others.

The monsoon will conclude on August 10 and will have 18 sittings in both the houses.
