Noted Hindi scholar and litterateur from Nagaland Padma Shri Piyong Temjen Jamir passed away following prolonged illness on Sunday.

Jamir made immense contributions in popularizing Hindi language in the state of Nagaland. With his help, Naga folklores and literature were able to reach the rest of the country through Hindi.

He was serving as the principal of Rastra Bhasha Hindi Training Institute located in Dimapur.

In 2018, he was conferred Padma Shri for his contributions. He also won many other awards in the field of literature and education.

Nagaland Governor RN Ravi and Deputy Chief Minister condoled Jamir's death.

Ravi wrote to the late litterateur's wife, Pangertula Longkumer, saying that Jamir Jamir will go down in history for his contributions in the field of literature and a humanist intellectual who believed in the universal brotherhood of mankind.

He added that the country has lost a noted litterateur and a great thinker.
