Illegal parking leading to traffic congestion in the metro cities have seen as a never-ending problem and to solve the issue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started levying fines of up to Rs. 15,000 for illegal parking from Sunday.
Accordingto a BMC official, the fine, including towing charges for parking wthin500-meter radius of 26 authorized Public Parking lots will range from Rs. 5000for two wheelers to Rs. 15,000 for heavy vehicles.
Theofficial further informed that with a penalty for late payment, it could go upto as much as 23,250 rupees. The move has been made in order to curbunauthorized parking outside designated parking lots.
The BMC official also reiterated that to recover the fine and for effective implementation of the scheme, the administration has hired ex-serviceman to assist traffic police. To mention, BMC has 26 authorized parking places in Mumbai.
