"I sincerely apologise for attributing the comments toSC," said Gandhi's lawyer Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Gandhi reiterated his earlier reply to the court in thefresh one handed to a bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. He alsosaid that BJP was trying to gag him for raising the Rafale issue. The48-year-old Congress President has requested the Supreme Court to dismiss thecontempt case against him with a fine.

Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Congress president RahulGandhi's counsel that what is the meaning of mentioning "regret"within brackets in the affidavit. The court also asked where he has expressed"complete regrets" for attributing the chowkidar chor hai jibe to theSupreme Court.

The BJP had objected to the Congress chief's earlier affidavit expressing regret, saying it is nowhere near an unqualified apology. The CJI-led bench remarked that it was not able to understand the affidavit and asked why 'regret' was stated in brackets.

The Court also asked if there was a statement of Gandhi's apology. At this, Singhvi undertook to file an affidavit to that effect by next Monday.
