An engine and six coaches of the New Farakka Express has derailed 50 m from Harchandpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli on Wednesday morning. Seven people have lost their lives and more than 20 people have been injured in the accident.

One team of National Disaster Response Force, comprising 40 personnel, from Lucknow and Varansi have reached Harchandpur railway station for rescue and relief operations.

According to reports, the ADG said that the reason for derailment will be known after an Anti-Terrorism Squad is sent for an on-the-spot probe.

The state transport department has allocated six buses by which 300 passengers have been evacuated.

Senior officers, including the district magistrate, superintendent of police, CO, sub-divisional magistrate are at the spot and relief operations are in full swing, the ADG said.

The passengers are being taken to Lucknow and from there they will be sent to Delhi by a special train.

All passengers have been evacuated and a special train is being arranged to take them. It is likely to take 24-36 hrs for completion of clearance operations, said DRM Northern Railways on New Farakka Express Train derailment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday condoled the loss of lives in New Farakka Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh.

"Anguished by the loss of lives due to a rail accident in Rae Bareli. Condolences to the bereaved families and I pray that the injured recover quickly," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted quoting Modi.
