US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning. Various aspects such as the bilateral relationship to strengthen the India-US strategic partnership were reportedly discussed during the meet.
Pompeo set foot in New Delhi last night. After the PM, the US Secretary also met the External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, during which key issues such as terrorism, H-1B visas, trade, India's arms deal with Russia and the situation arising out of the US sanctions on buying oil from Iran, have been discussed. Pompeo also had a working lunch with the EAM.
EAM Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar taking to Twitter said, " Welcoming a close friend. Continuing the emphasis on high-level Indo-US exchanges, EAM @DrSJaishankar warm-heartedly welcomed @SecPompeo as the first US dignitary visiting India after elections. @SecPompeo is the first Foreign Minister to be hosted by EAM."

It may be noted that Pompeo also met NSA Ajit Doval at South Block, New Delhi in the morning.

The US Secretary's visit is the first high-level interaction between the two countries after Modi government's return to power after a massive victory.
