World Environment Day |Selfie with Sapling campaign

EnvironmentMinister Prakash Javadekar launched 'Selfie with Sapling' campaign on theoccasion of World Environment Day celebrated on June 5 urging to plant asapling and click a selfie with it.

PrakashJavadekar who took charge as the environment minister on Saturday said thatpeople's participation is an integral part to tackle environmental issues andit has to be a people's movement. Launching the campaign, the Minister said, "Iam sure that people will actively participate in the World Environment Day withenthusiasm and I appeal to the people to plant a sapling , click a picture withit and post it in social media using #SelfiewithSapling."

The ministersaid that the Modi government believes that environment is not just agovernment programme but a people's programme. The ministry has also released amusic video recently with this year's theme of World Environment Day 'Hawa AaneDe.'

The videoreleased by the ministry features Bollywood actors like Akshay Kumar andRajkumar Rao among others. Renowned singers Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan andSunidhi Chauhan lent their voices to the song.

The Centrealso launched National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in January last to reduce airpollution by 2024.

The environmentministry also informed that  an actionplan has also been prepared by the committee formed under the NCAP to draw upfor 84 of 102 non-attainment cities which do not meet the national air qualitystandard.
