Security forces recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai district, just weeks ahead of Independence Day, triggering alarm.
According to sources, the IED was found planted beneath a culvert on a rural road in Nongtaw village under Piyong circle of Namsai district. The device was reportedly discovered during a joint operation carried out by the Assam Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The timely detection and safe recovery of the explosive device averted a potential tragedy.
Initial investigations suggest that the IED was likely intended to target security personnel patrolling the area. While no militant group has claimed responsibility so far, officials suspect the involvement of insurgent elements aiming to disrupt peace in the sensitive border region during the run-up to Independence Day celebrations.
Security forces had intensified counterinsurgency operations in eastern Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Assam following reliable intelligence inputs of the presence of multiple hit squads of Ulfa-Independent in the region.
