At a time when the entire Assam has been protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, simultaneously, in lower Assam, 14 Bengali organisations have together to form an alliance in support of the proposed Bill, under the banner of 'Bengali United Forum of Assam'.
Not only have they formed an alliance they have also alleged the Foreigner's Tribunal has declared Hindu Bengalis as foreigners without discretion and have strongly opposed the same.
The forum has threatened to blow up the detention camps if such atrocities on the Hindu Bengalis do not come to an end. The organisations have also alleged that on the name of NRC, Hindu Bengalis in Assam are being continuously harassed
The protesting groups have also alleged that they have been branded as D-voters and as such have been victims of discrimination in the state.
Forum co-coordinator Santanu Mukherjee has urged the government to pass the proposed Bill as early as possible, as they allege of being victimised in every instance.
The Forum has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Assam Governor, State Finance Minister and Leader of the Congress Legislature Party seeking protection for the Hindu Bengali community.
