Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath had fallen prey to the barbaric attack by the locals of the village in suspicion of being child traffickers which had been a circulated rumour in the social media platforms.

The two youths went to the village to witness the scenic beauty of Kangthilangso falls. Das wanted to capture some natural sounds which would help in his profession of a sound engineer and Nath wanted to bring some ornamental fish which would decorate his aquarium.

The whole story of this tragic incident began with the duo stopping in a restaurant to have their lunch and then asking for people on the way about the directions leading to the falls. Being attacked at the falls, they somehow saved their lives and took the highway. The group back at the falls called their people and told them that two men in a black Scorpio were child traffickers.

The mob stopped them on the way and before they could even say a word attack on them had already begun.

One from the attacking mob had recorded the entire incident and made it viral on social media, following which acquaintances of the victims started to react.

The police had reached the spot much later and as they took the victims to the hospital, they were declared brought dead.

Their death has taken all of Assam and social media by storm.

Further, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a high-level enquiry into the case handing over the responsibility to the DGP.

The state police have urged people not to be confounded by all rumours and fake news that circulate in any social media platforms which may lead to spread of panic across the region.
