Swapna Barman gets historic gold in heptathlon, India beat China 1-0 to enter women's hockey finals

Arpinder Singh clinched the first gold medal of the day for India as he won the men's triple jump event with a best jump of 16.77 metres. Arpinder became the second Indian after Mohinder Singh Gill's win in the 1970 Asiad.

Swapna Barman then added the second athletics gold and fifth overall, after winning the women's heptathlon event with a total of 6026 points. It was India's first ever gold medal in the event at the Asian Games.

India ended the day on a high as the women's hockey team beat China 1-0 to enter the final where they will face Japan in the gold medal match on August 31. Gurjit Kaur scored the lone goal of the match in the 52nd minute with a superb drag-flick from a penalty corner.

Dutee Chand ends 16-year wait for India with silver in 200m

India now have 54 medals in total and occupy the ninth spot on the medals tally behind China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Taiwan, Uzbekistan and North Korea.

Now, India has 11 Gold, 20 Silver and 23 Bronze in Asiad 2018 medal tally.
