FIFA World Cup 2018 Update | France books one; England, Croatia to fight for the other finals berth

In the FIFA World Cup, France has secured their position into the finals after defeating Belgium 1-0 at Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday.

It is for the first time since 2006 that France will play in the World Cup final and it was Samuel Umtiti for making it possible, who scored the goal after a second-half header. France has won the World Cup just once in the past, in 1998.

Until half time, it was surprising to see the scoreline for both the countries to remain unaffected. However, minutes after the half time, Samuel Umtiti led France ahead by scoring a goal from a corner. Post scoring the goal, France had largely wasted time while Belgium made a few chances but failed.

France will now face Croatia or England in the finals.

England will battle it out against Croatia in the second semi-final of the FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Wednesday. The match will kick off at 11:30 pm. England will be eying to reach the Final of the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

On the other hand, Croatia has never made it to the final. Their previous best performance was in 1998 when they reached the semi-finals.

Wednesday will witness the eighth meeting between the two sides. England had won four of the previous 7 games, while Croatia had won two and one match ended in a draw.

The winner of the second semi-final game will play against France in the Final slated for Sunday.

The third place match between Belgium and Wednesday's losing team will be played on Saturday at Saint Petersburg.
