Openingbatsman Rohit Sharma on Saturday once again scored a century on the first dayof the third and final Test against South Africa in Ranchi. He has become onlythe second Indian opener to score three or more centuries in a Test series. SunilGavaskar was the only previous Indian to do so.

Rohitalso broke the record for registering the most number of sixes in a bilateralTest series. Rohit has now smashed 16 sixes in the entire series.

He brokethe record of West Indies' batsman Shimron Hetmyer, who had registered 15 sixesin a series against Bangladesh in 2018-19.

It maybe mentioned here that prior to Hetmyer, Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh heldthe record by hitting 14 sixes in a series against New Zealand in 2010-11.

Inthe third and final Test, India won the toss and elected to bat first againstSouth Africa. Shahbaz Nadeem makes his debut in the match for India.

Whilefiling this story, India had reached the score of 224/3 in the first innings.Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane are currently unbeaten on 117 and 83 respectively.
