Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra to be India’s flag bearer at Asian Games 2018

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who recently bagged a gold medal in Sottevile Athletics meet in France, has been named as the flag bearer for the Indian contingent by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) at the upcoming 18th edition of the Asian Games.

The announcement was made on Friday during the send-off ceremony of the Indian squad here at Hyatt hotel. "It is a matter of great pride for me. I want to thank IOA for this. I am feeling very excited and happy," Chopra said in an interview to ANI.

Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rajyavardhan Rathore wished the athletes and officials ahead of the Asian Games.

A total of 572 athletes will be participating in the event in 36 different sports categories. The contingent will be led by Chef de Mission Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Asian Games are slated to be held from August 18 to September 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
