Sri Lanka Cricket suspends opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka for misconduct

Accused of breaching the player code of conduct and contractual obligations, Sri Lankan opener Danushka Gunathilaka has been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for six international matches.

As per reports, an initial enquiry was conducted by the SLC after the team management had reported violation of the code of conduct by Danushka Gunathilaka, following which the decision to suspend him was taken.

The six match suspension comes as a sentence for two code violations; one being for his latest violation of the code of conduct and contractual obligations and the other being for an earlier suspension sentence of one year which he is serving since October 2017 for breaching the 'player contract'.

The matter of misconduct is allegedly a very regular affair with the opening batsman. Previously, the International Cricket Council had admonished him for breaching level 1 of the ICC code of conduct in January during the final match of the T20I tri-series against Bangladesh.
