Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inaugurated 'Bodoland Speaks: From Vision to Action', a major initiative of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) under the Bodoland Happiness Mission. The event was held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
During the programme, the Chief Minister unveiled several key projects and publications, including the BTR Communication Bridge — a multilingual resource featuring 1001 words and 1001 sentences across 18 regional languages. Other releases included 'Transforming Bodoland: A Journey of Change in BTR', 'Lookin' Within: My Reflections' authored by BTC Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, and the Annual Report of the Bodoland Happiness Mission for the year 2024–25.
CM Sarma praised the Bodoland Happiness Mission for its efforts in promoting peace, emotional well-being, and social harmony across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). He said the mission has helped reinforce the stability and unity achieved over the past five years.
Recalling the troubled history of Bodoland since 1968, which was marked by violence and community tensions, Sarma said that the past demand for self-determination by the Bodo people had created fear and unrest among other communities in the region. However, he noted that Bodoland has since transformed into a peaceful and cooperative region, thanks to the efforts of the Bodo people and the 26 tribal communities residing in the area.
Speaking about the state’s progress under BJP governance, Sarma mentioned that in the past four years, he had not heard the sound of gunfire in the BTR — a sign of how far the region has come since the signing of the Bodo peace accord.
In a major announcement, the Chief Minister said that following the demand of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), the government will make it mandatory for all official notifications to be translated into the Bodo language in all 13 Bodo-inhabited districts of Assam.
The event also featured the launch of two new initiatives — the Bodoland Engaged Ethnography Initiative and the Bodoland Migrant Women Livelihood Support Programme — aimed at community development and empowerment.
In recognition of cultural contributions, CM Sarma presented the Bodoland Lifetime Achievers Award to 18 individuals who have made significant efforts to preserve and promote folk culture and traditions in the region.
