Sahitya Akademi Honours Assamese, Bodo Writers with 2025 Awards

The Sahitya Akademi officially announced the winners of its 2025 Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar today, honouring exceptional literary contributions across various Indian languages.

In Assamese, Surendra Mohan Das has been conferred the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his acclaimed children’s poetry collection "Moinahator Podya" (Poems of the Deer).

Meanwhile, the Yuva Puraskar in Assamese goes to Suprakash Bhuyan for his book "Kuchiyanama", a literary work that has garnered praise for its originality and narrative depth.

In the Bodo language category, Amar Khungur Boro has been awarded the Yuva Puraskar for his poetic work "Ang Osur", while Binoy Kumar Brahma received the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his book "Khanthi Bawswn Ar Akho Danai".

The Sahitya Akademi’s 2025 Yuva Puraskar has been awarded to a total of 23 young writers across 23 languages, while the Bal Sahitya Puraskar recognised outstanding contributions in children’s literature across multiple languages as well.

Jury Panels

For Assamese:

  • Yuva Puraskar Jury: Ankur Deka, Dr. Deepti Patgiri, and Sanjiv Kumar Phukan.

  • Bal Sahitya Puraskar Jury: Dr. Jyotirekha Hazarika, Rathindra Nath Goswami, and Shantanu Tamuli.

For Bodo:

  • Yuva Puraskar Jury: Dhanshree Swargiary, Rashmi Choudhury, and Dr. Tulan Mushahary.

  • Bal Sahitya Puraskar Jury: Aaron Raja Basumatary, M. Khungur Boro, and Tamsing Brahma.

The awards continue to highlight the Akademi’s commitment to encouraging young voices and enriching children's literature across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.
