The operation, which began on Sunday night and continued into Monday morning, was carried out by Sonitpur police, Dhekiajuli police, and CRPF commandos after a tip-off. The raid took place in Rowonchandri village near the Thaula Centre in Batashipur.

During the search, police recovered two pistols, 16 bullets, two walkie-talkies, and five mobile phones. Three people were arrested from the area, Gabra Basumatary from Majbat (Udalguri), Rohit Basumatary from Dhekiajuli, and Akheb Basumatary from Arunbari.

Based on their statements, police later arrested four more people from different places. Rubul Boro alias Pandek was picked up from Amingaon in Guwahati, and Anchola Islary from Runikhata in Chirang. Later, two more, Chang Narzari of Bentol and Philip Basumatary of Runikhata (both from Chirang), were arrested from a hidden camp near the Chapai River in Dheraibil, close to the Arunachal hills.

From the camp, police seized two handmade rifles, two khukris (traditional knives), more mobile phones, torches, and food items like rice and pulses.
Police said the group was planning to form a new armed group and had been involved in earlier criminal activities. So far, weapons, bullets, walkie-talkies, phones, and other items have been seized, and the search for more suspects is still on.
