An Assam-based GST officer has been nationally recognised for his outstanding service in exposing one of the country’s largest tax evasion operations.
Surajit Gogoi, Superintendent with the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Guwahati, was felicitated with a Commendation Certificate during the 8th GST Day celebrations held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi. The ceremony was attended by Revenue Secretary Arvind Shrivastava and CBIC Chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal.
Gogoi’s commendation comes on the back of his pivotal role in busting fake invoicing rackets that defrauded the government of nearly ₹870 crore in GST revenue. His investigation led to recoveries worth ₹430 crore — one of the highest in recent times — and exposed a sprawling network of shell firms, forged documents, and misused credentials.
Officials said his work not only resulted in five key arrests but also strengthened enforcement standards across the GST regime.
Gogoi’s contribution is being seen as a major boost to the image of the Northeast in the national administrative landscape. His dedication to clean and strategic enforcement reflects the rising leadership of officers from the region in high-stakes financial investigations.
