A mother-daughter duo was tragically charred to death after a fire broke out in their residence at Kamakhya Nagar in Guwahati’s Maligaon on Thursday morning.

The victims, identified as Sarasmita Chakravarty and her daughter Dipshikha Chakravarty, died on the spot as the flames quickly engulfed their home.

According to reports, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. It spread rapidly, leaving little time for the family to escape. Subrata Chakravarty, the husband and father, managed to get out of the house but suffered serious burn injuries. He was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he is currently undergoing treatment.

City police reached the spot shortly after the incident and recovered the bodies for post-mortem.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
