James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz were declaredas the winners of 2019 Nobel prize in physics. They were announced as winnersat a ceremony in Stockholm.

According to Nobel Committee, they were awarded theprize for work on the evolution of the Universe and the discovery of a distantplanet around a Sun-like star in 1995.

"They tell us something essential, somethingexistential about our place in the Universe," said a member of the Committee.

While, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz were awardedthe prize for finding 51 Pegasi b, a gas giant orbiting a star 50 light-yearsaway; Canada-born James Peebles was honoured for his contributions to theunderstanding of the evolution of the Universe and Earth's place in the cosmos.

The winners will share the prize money of ninemillion kronor (£738,000).
