In fact, Bora argued that the visit could prove detrimental to the Congress party’s prospects.

Speaking to reporters, Bora said, "His visit will have no impact. It will not have any positive impact. It will have a negative impact. What would happen if he visited? Congress works only on one system.”

Highlighting the achievements of the current BJP-led government in Assam, Bora asserted that significant progress has been made in the past four years, progress he claimed had never been witnessed in the state since Independence.

The political tension surrounding Gandhi’s visit was palpable on Wednesday, as BJP workers held demonstrations in Kamrup district. The protest, held in the Bongaon area near the site of a Congress meeting, saw BJP supporters waving placards and chanting slogans against the Congress leader, expressing strong disapproval of his presence in Assam.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, addressing a rally in Chhaygaon, exuded confidence that Congress would sweep the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. He also launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of behaving more like a “king” than an elected representative.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma doesn’t think of himself as a Chief Minister; he sees himself as a king. The people of Assam know the truth. We’ve built a new team under Gaurav Gogoi’s leadership. The work has started, and the people will see results soon,” Gandhi said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the gathering, lending weight to the party’s renewed push in the state. Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress MP from Kaliabor, reiterated the party’s commitment to fighting for justice and standing with communities he said were “living in fear” under the BJP regime.
