In the Tirap Tribal Belt under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency of Tinsukia district, the Sema Naga community joyously celebrated their traditional "Tuluni Festival" today 8th July tuesday which they celebrated it in every year.
Tuluni Festival is the largest and greatest Festival of Sema naga community people residing all over the world as this festival marks the beginning of new season, harvesting of new crops and victory of war as this festival marked with feast and celebrated every year on 8th July.
Tuluni is called Anni the word which denotes the season of plentiful crops and this festival mend broken relationship and celebrates togetherness, unity, harmony, eating and merry making among the Sema community people.
This festival is held to pray that nature does not destroy the crops, such as paddy and other produce grown in the fields.
Historical Heritage Longtong Sema village is located approximately 50 kilometers away from neighbouring country Myanmar and is the home to around 900 Sema people as in the year 2003 late President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam visited this village.
Established in 1904 Longtong Sema village continues to preserve the unique traditions, rites, rituals,language and culture of the Sema community.
We the Sema community has expressed our disappointment through the media, stating that despite repeated appeal and submission of memorandums to Assam Government for declaring 8th July as restricted holiday in celebrating our traditional Tuluni Festival unfortunately we have not received any kind of assurances so far said Kahoto Sema president of All Assam Sema Naga Council.
Organised by All Assam Sema Naga Council, the Tuluni Festival was celebrated with great pomp and grandeur in the Historical Heritage Longtong Sema village.
The event began with a felicitation ceremony, followed by the inauguration of various cultural programs by different Sema communities people residing in Paharpur, Lalpahar, Saliki, Balijan, Tinkupather and Longtong Sema village which falls under 83rd Margherita constituency in Tinsukia district.
The agriculture-based festival “Tuluni,” primarily celebrated by the Sema community, was marked by widespread enthusiasm and zeal, with several speakers delivering insightful speeches.
The core essence of the “Tuluni festival" lies in the Sema people, who rely heavily on agriculture, praying to God to protect crops and harvests across the country from natural destruction.
The festival embodies the spirit of brotherhood,unity, faith,love and affection.
Sema women showcased traditional songs sung during weaving on looms and working in the fields, captivating the audience.
The Tuluni Festival was attended several distinguished and renowned persons such as Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia, NEC CIL Margherita General Manager K Mere, Dibrugarh University assistant Professor department of Anthropology Dr. G Kanato Chophy among with leaders from all communities and with more than 3000 Sema community people residing in 83rd Margherita constituency.
During the event, the Tuluni Festival Celebration Committee submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia with the main objectives to declared state holiday on 8th July during the Tuluni Festival.
