Triple Talaq Bill passed in RS

Amid uproar by the opposition,the Triple Talaq Bill has been passed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday evening. 99members of the upper house voted in favour of the Bill, while only 8 4membersvoted against it.

The contentious bill will make instant triple talaq a criminal offence. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha last Thursday.

"This issue should not be seen through a political prism or vote-bank politics. This is a question of humanity. This is for ensuring justice to women, dignity, and empowerment to women and to ensure gender dignity and equality," Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
