Japan has ushered in a new era as a new Emperor has ascended the
Chrysanthemum Throne. Naruhito, eldest son of former Emperor Akihito, has taken over the throne.

At a morning ceremony held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo today morning, Naruhito is now the 126th Emperor of Japan marking the beginning of the Reiwa Era, which means order and harmony.

In a morning ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, today, Naruhito became the 126th Emperor of Japan. 

It may be noted that former Emperor Akihito had been abdicated a day earlier, ending the Heisei Era in its 31st year.

Although the emperor in Japan holds no political power, it serves as a national symbol.
