PM Modi, Iranian President Discuss Tensions Post US Airstrikes

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East following the United States' dramatic airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a crucial phone conversation with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, calling for immediate de-escalation and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.

The 45-minute conversation came just hours after the United States launched precision strikes on three of Iran’s most sensitive nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — in a move that has dramatically raised global alarm over regional stability.

Following the high-level call, PM Modi took to social media platform X to share India’s position.

“We discussed in detail the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” he wrote.

Modi’s remarks echoed India’s long-standing position advocating for non-violence, sovereignty, and respect for international law.

As per reports, the call was initiated by President Masoud Pezeshkian, who personally briefed PM Modi on the unfolding situation after the US strikes. Pezeshkian described India as a “trusted friend and partner” in the pursuit of regional peace and appreciated New Delhi’s balanced and constructive stance.

“India’s voice and role are vital for the restoration of peace and stability in the region,” the Iranian President reportedly said during the exchange.

Earlier, in a nationally televised address, US President Donald Trump hailed the operation as a "spectacular military success," stating that the strikes had achieved their core objective: crippling Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.

According to reports, the Fordow underground nuclear facility was hit with six bunker-busting bombs, while 30 Tomahawk missiles launched from US submarines targeted Natanz and Isfahan sites, dealing a major blow to Iran’s atomic infrastructure.

In a scathing reaction, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi condemned the US strikes as a "serious violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)."

In a post on X, Araghchi stated: “The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless, and criminal behavior.”

He further accused the US, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, of “criminal behavior” by targeting what Iran claims were peaceful nuclear installations.
