An Indian citizen was killed in Saudi Arabia amid ongoing war in Iran
Saudi Arabia on Sunday reported its first fatalities linked to the ongoing Iran war after a military projectile struck a residential area, killing two civilians of Indian and Bangladeshi nationality and injuring 12 Bangladeshi nationals. The incident was confirmed in an official statement as tensions continue to escalate across the Gulf region amid the ongoing conflict.
The Saudi announcement came nine days into the war, during which hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones have targeted Gulf and other nations, triggering rising anger and concern across the region.
Projectile Strike Hits Residential Area
According to the Saudi statement released Sunday evening, the military projectile landed in a residential neighbourhood, causing civilian casualties.
Two individuals, one Indian and one Bangladeshi national, were killed in the strike. Additionally, 12 Bangladeshi citizens sustained injuries in the incident. The attack marked the first confirmed deaths in Saudi Arabia linked to the ongoing conflict.
Regional Tensions Escalate
The development comes against the backdrop of intensifying hostilities in the region, with hundreds of missiles and drone attacks reportedly launched by Iran targeting the Gulf and other countries during the nine-day conflict.
The strikes have heightened tensions across the Middle East and triggered growing concern among regional governments.
Iran Reports Heavy Casualties
Separately, the Iranian army stated on Sunday that at least 104 people were killed and 32 were injured after the United States attacked an Iranian warship near Sri Lanka last week.
According to Iran, a US submarine sank the Iranian frigate Dena in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday, around 19 nautical miles off the southern Sri Lankan port city of Galle. The incident reportedly killed dozens of sailors and significantly escalated Washington’s pursuit of Iranian naval forces. Iran also stated that its military cooperation with Russia would continue despite the latest escalation in hostilities.
