The United States on Tuesday decided to provide security guarantees to North Korea in exchange of Pyongyang's firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

According to the joint document signed by US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, both nations commit to establishing new relations in accordance with the desire of the people of the two countries for peace and prosperity.

Addressing a press conference after the talks, Trump said that the talks between the nations had gone better than expected.

Trump said that the process of denuclearisation would start very soon.

Kim Jong Un said that they have decided to leave the past behind. "The world will see a major change" he added.

Before the delegation-level talks, both leaders had met for a one-on-one meeting for about 45 minutes.

It may be mentioned here that Trump and Kim are the first leaders of their respective countries to meet.
