Reliance JIO Becomes India’s No. 2 Telecom Company

Reliance JIO has surpassed Bharti Airtel to become India's second-largest telecom operator by the number of users as of May, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data showed. Vodafone Idea has remained the top operator in the country.

According to TRAI, JIO added 81.8 lakh new subscribers during May, whereas, Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel have respectively lost 56.97 lakh and 15.08 lakh, subscribers.

The TRAI data also revealed that JIO had 32.29 crore users till May. Similarly, the largest operator Vodafone Idea had 38.75 crore users across the country till May and third-placed Bharti Airtel had 32.03 crore users as of May. Interestingly, Government-owned BSNL had a user base of only 11.58 crore till May.
