2 ULFA(I) cadres surrender in Tinsukia

Two cadresof outlawed outfit ULFA (I) have surrendered before the police in Lekhapaniunder Tinsukia district on Thursday. The surrendered ULFA (I) were identifiedas Luit Asom alias Bijitkanti Bora and Rana Asom alias Pranjal Kotoky.

Basedon inputs about the ULFA-I men crossing the India-Myanmar border to carry outspecific activities in upper Assam, a joint counter-insurgency operation waslaunched by a team of Assam Police and the Indian Army in Lekhapani area on Thursday.

"Thesecurity forces persuaded the cadres to give up arms and the ULFA (I) personnelsurrendered with a huge cache of arms and ammunition," a police officer said.

Theweapons and the ammunition which the cadres surrendered include MQ-81 and AKseries rifles along with 40 bullets.
