AAASA stages protest in Biswanath demanding ST status

Pratidin Bureau

The All Assam Adivasi Students' Association (AAASA) on Monday staged a protest in Biswanath in front of the DC Office, demanding ST status for the Adivasi community in Assam.

The protesters also demanded land pattas for Adivasi community members across Assam along with wage hike of tea garden workers to Rs 350.

AAASA also demanded the construction of High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools in tea gardens across Assam.

It may be mentioned here that the students' association has been pressing the government for ST status of the Adivasi community of Assam since many years and had also protested at Jantar Mantar for the same when the NDA government came to power.
