AASU Leader Turned ULFA Militant Surrenders

Pankaj Pratim Dutta -former vice-president of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) unit in Dergaon, who had joined the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), has reportedly surrendered before police on Sunday.

Few months ago, Pankaj uploaded a video on social media claimingto have joined the Paresh Baruah-faction of the United Liberation Front, orULFA-Independent. He had gone missing from Golaghat district's Dergaon inSeptember, 2018.

Pankaj, 27, was serving as thevice-president of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) unit in Dergaon ofAssam's Golaghat district before joining the rebel group.

As per reports, Pankaj had made a phone call to his uncle AjitChandra Dutta on Sunday evening using the cell phone of an OC in a PoliceStation from Nagaland's Mon district. He has reportedly surrendered, along withtwo other ULFA cadres.
