Akhil slams Centre over Dibang Project

KrishakMukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Thursday slammed NarendraModi-led Central government for approving the Dibang Multipurpose Project (MPP)in Arunachal Pradesh.

Akhil claimed that the project will be harmful to the people of Assam. "The proposed 2880MW project will do a lot of harm to the people of Upper Assam. This dam will bring misery to the people of Upper Assam. If the project is stopped, it will benefit the region," said KMSS chief.

Itmay be mentioned here that with a height of 278 meters, this is going to be thelargest hydroelectric project to be ever constructed in India.

Akhilfurther said that the Centre has approved the project without proper clearance fromthe concerned departments. Notably, the project has every statutory clearance exceptfor Forest Clearance (Stage-II) for seeking Investment Sanction from Govt. ofIndia.
