Angry Mahanta attacks party leaders

Pratidin Bureau

The founder-president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Prafulla Mahanta on Thursday attacked the leaders of the party and expressed that there might be a conspiracy to throw him away from the regional party. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Mahanta expressed his displeasure over the AGP-BJP alliance for the Lok Sabha Elections.

He also said that the decision to fight the LS polls along with BJP was taken by only some of the leaders and was not discussed with party workers from across the State. "It was an undemocratic decision," said the former CM. Mahanta urged the leaders of AGP to organise a general meeting of the party and to discuss the alliance with the party workers. Mahanta also asked the party leaders to contest the 2021 assembly election alone.

The senior regional party leader also denied reports of being offered the post of Governor of Mizoram and said, "News about the government appointing me as a governor and wife to be a Rajya Sabha candidate are completely fake and baseless."
