As a scene of uproar and confusion prevails over the conduct of board examinations in Assam, the All Assamese Students' Association, New Delhi, has raised its concern in relation to the board examinations and Delhi University admissions to the undergraduate programmes.
In an official release addressed to the state Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, the students' body said admissions of nearly 77 colleges affiliated to Delhi University will begin around July 15. The decision to proceed with the admissions during this timeframe has been considered presuming results of states would be declared around mid of July.
However, Assam government is yet to take a final call if the examinations will be conducted or not.
The students' association stated that if a decision on conducting the board examination is not taken soon, it might affect the admission process of getting into Delhi University for aspiring students belonging from Assam.
Therefore the students' organisation appealed the Education Minister to look into the matter and take a decision accordingly.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the state board examinations for classes 10 and 12 will be held from July 15, if the COVID-19 positivity rate goes below two percent.
"The schedule for the examinations will be announced within the next few days but with the rider that the positivity rate in the state comes down to less than two per cent," he said at a press conference held to mark the completion of the first 30 days of his government.
However, if the positivity rate is above two per cent on July 1, the board examinations will be cancelled, as we cannot take risk with the lives of students", Sarma said.
In case the examinations are cancelled, the schools will be directed to conduct the evaluation for which the modalities will be worked out.
The current positivity rate in the state is 3.07 per cent.
