Assam Dairy Farmers Stage Protest Against Govt.

The SitajakhalaDugdha Utpadak Samabai Samity, a dairy board of Assam has thrown away around 1000litres of milk into the Killing River in Jagiroad in protest against theCentral government policies of dairy farming and the state government'snegligent attitude towards the farmers.

The farmers'staged an indefinite protest following the anti-local policy of the NationalDairy Development Board (NDDB) and Purabi, a local dairy brand in front oftheir office in Jagiroad. The Samity has urged the Sarbananda Sonowal-ledgovernment to take strict measures against Purabi Dairy as it has tried to interferewith the local milk production.

Chairmanof Sitajakhala Dugdha Utpadak Samiti, Rajib Sharma said that the Assamgovernment has signed an agreement through Purabi Dairy with Gujarat based NDDBdepriving the local dairy farmers of getting the proper value of theirproduction supplied to Purabi.

The protestors,however, said that they would continue their protests unless the governmentcancelled the agreement.

Meanwhile,former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the government should address theSita Jakhala dairy farmers.
