Assam: First COVID-19 positive case reported

#First COVID-19 positive case reported in Assam.

# The case has been reported from Karimganj.

#52-year-old patient was in Hatigaon till Mar16.

A week after the lockout, Assam joined the rest of the nation in having the Coronavirus positive case. This was confirmed by Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The patient is now stable and in fact recovering. The Silchar Medical College Hospital authorities have informed that he was taking medicine and not having any problem with respiration.

The patient came from Delhi on 6th March. He went to Karimganj on 16th March via Hatigaon, Guwahati. He felt unwell on 18th, has been found positive for #coronavirus today and now undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College

The patient is now in the Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH). His family members were sent to isolation wards.  The authorities have started contact tracing amongst the friends and relatives of the patient in the Hatigaon area.

Meanwhile, at Guwahati the authorities have started a massive contact tracing of the people who might have come in contact with the person. He was with a relative at Hatigaon and travelled back to Karimganj by train.
